The Ilorin Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned a self-proclaimed native doctor, Olorunbukunmi Taiwo, alongside his wife, Awolegan Omolola Omotola, over an alleged contract scam involving ₦1,098,961,500.
The duo appeared before Justice Abubakar Usman of the Federal High Court sitting in Ado-Ekiti on a six-count charge bordering on obtaining money under false pretence and the retention of proceeds of crime, in violation of Section 17(a) of the EFCC Establishment Act, 2004.
According to the EFCC, the case began after a widow, Anazia Colina Kenechukwu, who runs a private school in Delta State, petitioned the Commission.
She alleged that Taiwo approached her claiming he had been awarded a road construction contract by the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC), and persuaded her to finance it.
Investigations revealed that a total of ₦1.98 billion was allegedly paid into Taiwo’s bank account with Access Bank Plc as part of the transaction.
Further findings by the EFCC showed that the suspects allegedly laundered proceeds of the fraud by acquiring two properties in Ado-Ekiti: a business known as Town Tavern Lounge located on Ikere Road, near Florence Court School, and a four-bedroom bungalow within Florence Court, Irewolede Estate.
The Commission had earlier, on May 25, 2026, secured an interim order for the forfeiture of the two properties linked to the alleged proceeds of crime.
