A Nigerian woman has recounted how a chance meeting with a man at a restaurant allegedly ended in heartbreak and financial loss after she transferred ₦500,000 to him.
According to her account, the man initially impressed her with thoughtful gestures, including paying for her meals and transportation, before they developed a closer relationship and began going on dates.
She said:
“So, I went to a restaurant on a solo date. I got there, and the waiter came to take my order. About 10 minutes later, I was eating and enjoying the moment.
A few minutes later, the waiter brought a bottle of wine to my table. I told him I didn’t order any wine, then he pointed at a man sitting opposite me and said he was the one who asked him to give it to me.
I accepted it, and when I was done eating, the guy came to my table. We talked randomly, and later the waiter brought the bill. He told me not to pay that he would take care of it. We exchanged contacts, and he also paid for my cab.
He didn’t reach out like he promised, and I was getting worried because I had already started liking him.
One week later, he reached out to me, apologized, and said he had been busy. Weeks later, he asked us to go on a date. On the day of our date, he sent a cab to pick me up. It was a very classy restaurant with a good ambiance.
We ordered food, and after some minutes, he kept excusing himself to go outside. He looked very s@d and worried. I asked him what was wrong, and he said he had an issue on ground.
He said something that he was expecting was about to drop and he needed money to push it further, and he really needed to clear the stuff. He wasn’t explicit about it.
So I asked him how much he needed, and he said ₦700,000. He explained that he had already reached his transfer limit and that the only money he had left was the ₦200,000 meant for our date.
I offered to help. At first, he declined, but later accepted and said no problem.
I sent ₦500,000 to him and told him I would pay for the dinner date so the money will complete ₦700,000. He was so happy and told me to get ready to be spoiled. He also promised to refund the money immediately he got home.
Later that night, I tried reaching out to him, but his number was not going through. I felt he was probably busy sorting out the issue.
The next day, he didn’t call. I started getting worried. That was when it dawned on me that he had bl0cked me everywhere…”
