FLASH: APC Decries Kidnapping Of Ex-minister Adelabu’s Sister, Sons In Ibadan

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has condemned the abduction of Mrs Busayo Adelabu John-Paul, a biological sister of the immediate past Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, and her twin sons by unidentified gunmen in Ibadan on Wednesday.

The party urged Governor Seyi Makinde to work with security agencies and relevant stakeholders to address the rising wave of insecurity in the state.

GISTSMATE MEDIA reports that Mrs John-Paul was kidnapped alongside her 12-year-old twin sons in the Elewura-Challenge area of Ibadan, the state capital.

The victims were said to have been trailed from their residence by armed attackers, who intercepted their vehicle and abducted them at about 7:30 a.m. at the scene of the incident.

In a statement made available to journalists in Ibadan by its Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, the Oyo State APC lamented that the abduction occurred at a time when public concern was already mounting over unresolved kidnapping cases involving schoolchildren and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area, as well as two staff members of the Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria (CRIN) who were abducted in the Idi-Ayunre area of Oluyole Local Government Area.

The statement read: “We use this medium to appeal to the relevant authorities at the federal, state and local government levels to critically review the security architecture of Oyo State with a view to tightening all loose ends and ensuring maximum protection of lives and property, regardless of citizens’ background, economic status or political affiliation.

“We demand the immediate rescue of the Oriire school abductees, the two CRIN staff members, Mrs. Busayo John-Paul and her children, as well as all others currently being held in captivity.

“We also call for coordinated efforts by government, particularly Governor Makinde, and security agencies to stem the growing trend of kidnappings and violent attacks across the state.

“No citizen deserves to live in perpetual fear and anxiety, which has unfortunately become the reality for many residents of Oyo State.

“It is on this premise that we urge Governor Makinde to seek all necessary support to prevent the situation from deteriorating further. As things stand, no one appears safe anywhere in the state, and it has never been this bad.”
