Troops of the Nigerian Army have arrested two suspected terrorist informants during an offensive operation in Akure north LGA of Ondo state.
According to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication, the troops carried out the operation in collaboration with local vigilantes at about 9:30am on Monday.
Makama quoted security sources as saying that the operation targeted forested communities around Itagbolu, Iju, Igbogun Iju and Iju Alagbun.
The publication added that the operation formed part of ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks and enhance security within the area.
According to Makama, the suspects had been handed over to the Ondo State Security Network Agency, codenamed Amotekun, for further investigation and necessary action.
The development comes days after troops arrested a suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP spy in Garaha, Hong LGA of Adamawa state.
Makama reported that the suspect, a civilian, was arrested at about 9:30am on Saturday after allegedly loitering suspiciously around the perimeter of ‘B Company’.
GISTSMATE MEDIA earlier reported that the Nigerian Air Force has said its counter-terrorism operations in Borno State targeted identified terrorist hideouts and logistics structures at Biramiri in the Gezuwa general area of the state.
According to a statement on Tuesday by the Director of Public Relations and Information, Headquarters Nigerian Air Force, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the operation followed credible Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance reports.
Ejodame said the coordinated precision strikes destroyed key terrorist facilities and neutralised several insurgents operating within the area.
