The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has produced Comrade Akinteye Babatunde Afeez, popularly known as BABTEE, as the National President of NANS, while Comrade T. Babayo, a student of Gombe State University, emerged as the National Vice President, Inter-Campus Affairs.
The election took place during the just-concluded NANS National Convention held at the Old Parade Ground in Abuja, where student senators across the country overwhelmingly voted Babayo into office.
Before her election, Comrade T. Babayo served as Chief of Staff to the NANS Zone E Coordinator. Widely recognized for her commitment to student unionism and female inclusion in leadership, she has consistently championed the rights and welfare of female students across the North-East region and Nigeria at large.
Speaking with reporters shortly after her victory, Babayo expressed deep appreciation to Nigerian students for the confidence reposed in her leadership.
βLeadership is not about being in charge. It is about taking care of those in your charge.β β Simon Sinek
She assured students that her administration would focus on impactful programs aimed at empowering female students academically, socially, and economically.
According to her, plans are already underway to introduce hygiene awareness initiatives and empowerment programs designed to help female students become self-reliant and independent.
Babayo also used the opportunity to appreciate the Executive Governor of Gombe State, His Excellency Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, for his support throughout the campaign period until her eventual emergence.
She described the governor as βa student-friendly leader who believes in youth development and educational advancement.β
Encouraging young women across Nigeria to actively participate in leadership and governance, Babayo stressed that female students have the capacity to lead effectively and contribute meaningfully to national development.
βThere is no limit to what we, as women, can accomplish.β β Michelle Obama
She further called on female comrades nationwide to rise confidently and take up leadership responsibilities, noting that determination, courage, and vision remain key ingredients for success.
The emergence of BABTEE and T. Babayo into national offices has been widely celebrated by students, especially within the North-East zone, as a victory for youth inclusiveness, progressive leadership, and gender representation in student politics.
