Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s kinsman, Blessing Fubara, has joined the Rivers State governorship race after picking the Nigerian Democratic Congress, NDC, expression of interest and nomination forms.
GISTSMATE MEDIA learnt that Blessing Fubara picked the form on Wednesday hours before the governor announced his withdrawal from the All Progressives Congress, APC, primary.
According to Daily Trust, while both the governor and Blessing hail from the same Opobo/Nkoro local government area of the state, it was not immediately clear if they are directly related.
Success Jack, NDC chairman in Rivers State confirmed that Blessing Fubara is one of the aspirants seeking the party’s governorship ticket.
“Yes, he (Blessing Fubara Snr) obtained his expression of interest from yesterday in Abuja, and we are prepared and still preparing to win not only the governorship election, but all the elections in Rivers State, come 2027 general election”, Daily Trust quoted the NDC chairman.
It was gathered that some loyalists of the governor had begun moving to NDC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
GISTSMATE MEDIA earlier reported that Governor Fubara announced his withdrawal from the All Progressives Congress governorship primary election in the state.
Fubara made this known in a statement personally signed on Wednesday, saying he would support whoever emerges as the party’s candidate, The Nations reported.
The governor said his decision followed extensive consultations with his family, friends, and political associates.
“After deep reflection and extensive consultations with my family, friends, and associates, I have taken the difficult but necessary decision to withdraw from the APC governorship primaries. I do so with a full heart and with a firm commitment to support whoever emerges as the candidate of our great party,” Fubara said.
