Abba Adamu, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Jigawa state, has been reported killed by bandits who abducted him along Kaduna-Abuja expressway.
Adamu, a former member of the house of representatives, who represented the Birniwa/Guri/Kirikasamma federal constituency of Jigawa between 2007 and 2011, was abducted on Monday at the Jere axis of the Abuja-Kaduna road alongside his friend, Ali Tukur Gantsa, while travelling to the nation’s capital for a political engagement.
Sabo Nakudu, an ADC chieftain and former Jigawa senator, confirmed the incident in a statement posted on his Facebook page on Monday.
According to sources, the kidnappers initially demanded a ransom of N200 million before negotiations reduced the amount to N50 million.
Adamu was said to have died in captivity, while Gantsa regained freedom after the ransom was paid.
Family sources said Adamu, who suffered from asthma and hypertension, was denied access to his medication during captivity, worsening his condition amid the trauma of the ordeal.
An insider revealed that Adamu’s son and driver delivered the ransom to the abductors, who later released Gantsa and showed the deceased politician’s body to him.
His remains have since been released to the family for burial.
In a related development, GISTSMATE MEDIA reported that operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, Ogun State Police Command, have arrested a 30-year-old man for the alleged abduction and killing of a 16-year-old girl named Adegbaaju Florence in the Ogijo area of Sagamu Local Government.
Our correspondent gathered that the suspect, identified as Bayegun Nathaniel, despite collecting a ransom of N500,000, killed the victim and disposed her corpse in a river within the area.
Last week Tuesday, the police spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi said the suspect was apprehended following sustained intelligence-led operations.
“The incident occurred on Wednesday, 8th April 2026, at about 1700hrs, when the victim was abducted in Ogiijo. Upon receiving the report, the Command immediately activated its Anti-Kidnapping response mechanism and commenced a coordinated investigation.
“Through sustained intelligence gathering and strategic operations, detectives on Saturday, 2nd May 2026, at about 1400hrs, successfully arrested the suspect in connection with the case.” READ MORE
