Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have arrested Bello Bodejo, President of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, in Jalingo, the Taraba State capital, shortly after he declared his intention to contest for the Taraba Central Senatorial seat on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Bodejo was reportedly arrested on Thursday night after arriving earlier in the day aboard a private jet at the Danbaba Suntai Airport in Jalingo at about 1:20 p.m.
He was reportedly received by thousands of supporters from the five local government areas that make up the Taraba Central Senatorial District.
According to Daily Trust, Bodejo’s personal aide, Umar, said the APC aspirant was arrested after visiting some security agencies’ offices alongside close political associates.
Umar explained that the arrest occurred at one of the security offices shortly after Bodejo addressed supporters at the APC state secretariat in Jalingo.
He said those who accompanied Bodejo were immediately ordered to leave the premises while the Miyetti Allah leader was detained by security operatives.
“At the moment, we do not know where he has been taken to,” Umar said.
“The same security personnel that escorted and protected him from Abuja to Jalingo were the ones who later arrested him.”
“We are yet to be informed of the reason for his arrest, and our major concern now is that we do not know where he is being detained,” he added.
Before his arrest, Bodejo had publicly declared that he had purchased the APC senatorial nomination form and would not step down for any other aspirant.
“I am in this race to win, and nobody is going to force me to step down,” he declared while addressing journalists at the APC secretariat.
Bodejo also stated that the consensus committee reportedly constituted by Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, to engage aspirants across the three senatorial zones had not contacted him.
“The consensus committee set up by the governor has not contacted me, and let me make it clear that I will not step down for anybody, no matter the pressure,” he said.
The latest arrest is not the first involving the Miyetti Allah president.
In 2024, DSS operatives arrested Bodejo over the alleged creation of a vigilante group in Nasarawa State.
He was arrested at the Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore headquarters located at the Tundun Maliya Cattle Market along the Abuja-Keffi Expressway in Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
At the time, DSS operatives, accompanied by soldiers of the Nigerian Army, reportedly stormed the organisation’s office and arrested him at the gate before driving him away.
It remains unclear whether the latest arrest is connected to political developments surrounding the Taraba senatorial race or to any ongoing security investigation.
