A former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi and a former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, on Sunday held a closed-door meeting with leaders of the Nigeria Democratic Congress at the Abuja residence of the party’s National Leader, Seriake Dickson.
The meeting, held at Dickson’s residence in Guzape, is believed to be part of ongoing political realignments among opposition figures ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Obi and Kwankwaso arrived at about 5:18 p.m., drawing a crowd of supporters under the Obi-Kwankwaso Movement, who chanted “O-K is okay” as both leaders were ushered into the premises.

Kwankwaso was dressed in a white babanriga with his signature red-and-white Kwankwasiyya cap, while Obi appeared in an all-black kaftan and matching cap.
The development comes barely 24 hours after Buba Galadima, Secretary of the Board of Trustees of the New Nigeria People’s Party, disclosed that two prominent politicians would unveil a new political platform on Monday.
Galadima made the revelation at a stakeholders’ meeting of the Obi-Kwankwaso Movement in Abuja, amid growing uncertainty surrounding opposition coalitions.
Although he did not name the platform, sources close to the former governors indicated that both leaders were finalising arrangements to align with the Nigeria Democratic Congress, a relatively new platform reportedly linked to Dickson.
GISTSMATE MEDIA reports that the meeting comes at a time of heightened political manoeuvring among opposition leaders seeking to form a united front ahead of the 2027 elections.
Recent efforts to build a broad-based coalition, particularly around the African Democratic Congress, have faced setbacks following internal disagreements and high-profile defections. Notably, Obi recently exited the ADC, citing concerns over internal divisions and external interference.
Kwankwaso, leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement and a key figure in northern politics, has also been central to coalition talks, with his support base seen as critical to any viable opposition alliance.
The emergence of alternative platforms such as the Nigeria Democratic Congress signals a possible shift in strategy by opposition actors aiming to consolidate influence outside existing party structures.
