The Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory Command, Ahmed Sanusi, has ordered a comprehensive psychological and mental health assessment for all police personnel in the command.
The directive, according to the police, is part of efforts to strengthen discipline, professionalism and operational efficiency within the force.
This was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the commandâs Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, following an emergency meeting between the Commissioner and Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and heads of tactical units.
Sanusi said the exercise is aimed at improving officersâ emotional stability, judgment, and overall performance in the discharge of their duties.
âIn a decisive move to strengthen discipline, welfare, and operational efficiency, the Commissioner of Police also directed the Commandâs Medical Director ACP (Dr.) Ifayase Olabanji Akinola and the Police Counselling Unit, to commence a comprehensive psychological and mental health assessment of all personnel of the command.
âThe exercise, which will begin with junior officers on Monday, 4th May 2026, is aimed at enhancing emotional stability, sound judgment, and overall performance, both on and off dutyâ, the statement partly read.
The CP stressed that the initiative forms part of broader measures to improve operational efficiency and ensure personnel maintain the highest standards of conduct both on and off duty.
He also issued a strong warning against misconduct, urging officers to uphold professionalism and strictly adhere to human rights laws in the course of their duties.
Sanusi directed senior officers to return to their respective formations and brief their subordinates on the new directives, adding that compliance reports must be submitted to headquarters.
He further warned that supervising officers would be held accountable for the conduct of personnel under their command.
The police boss also urged residents of the Federal Capital Territory to remain law-abiding and report suspicious activities to security agencies through designated emergency lines.
The development comes amid growing concerns over allegations of unprofessional conduct among some police officers across the country.
