The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State is grappling with a damaging pre-election crisis as one of its prominent House of Representatives aspirants for the Irele/Okitipupa Federal Constituency, Dr. Olu Daramola, popularly known as DOD, comes under intense scrutiny over alleged discrepancies in his credentials.
What was intended to be a smooth campaign launch has turned into a nightmare for the aspirant after his own media team’s mishandling of his personal records reportedly exposed inconsistencies in his academic results, sending shockwaves through the party structure.
The revelation has triggered a rapid erosion of support for Dr. Daramola. Party faithful who once rallied behind the aspirant are now divided, with many withdrawing their backing amid growing concerns over transparency and integrity.
Senior stakeholders within the APC are said to be seriously considering outright disqualification of the aspirant to safeguard the party’s image and prevent what could become a gift to the opposition in the upcoming elections.
A party chieftain, speaking on condition of anonymity, expressed the prevailing sentiment: “We are working hard to shed unnecessary political baggage and protect our votes. We cannot allow any candidate to become the back door through which the opposition regains lost ground.”
At the centre of the storm are serious questions surrounding Daramola’s use of the “Dr.” title and his claim to medical doctor status. Many supporters now allege they were misled by what they describe as a misrepresentation of facts. The issue has refused to die down and is said to be haunting the aspirant badly, particularly in a constituency where trust and authenticity are paramount.
Compounding Daramola’s woes is stiff rejection from his own homestead. Residents continue to raise uncomfortable questions about the performance of his father during his tenure as a federal minister.
This lingering dissatisfaction has translated into a clear lack of popular acceptance, creating yet another major obstacle for the aspirant’s ambition. While others consider him a “Political Excursionist”.
There are strong allegations of collusion involving the Commissioner of Finance, with claims that the sum of ₦250 million was received to secure a critical endorsement. Critics see this as a dangerous return to the “highest bidder” politics reminiscent of the Betty Akeredolu (Ada-Owerri) era.
The unfolding drama in Ondo State has become more than a personal political challenge — it is now a critical test of the APC’s commitment to internal reforms, transparency, and winning the trust of the electorate ahead of the polls.
For Dr. Olu Daramola, the certificate discrepancy saga may yet define — or destroy — his representatives dream.
