AIG Jimoh Halts Lagos, Ogun Police Commands From Transferring Cases To Zonal HQ

Moshood Jimoh, the assistant inspector-general of police in charge of zone 2, has directed an immediate halt to transfer of cases from the Lagos and Ogun police commands to the zonal headquarters.

Jimoh issued the directive during the maiden strategic meeting with commissioners of police in Lagos and Ogun.

The meeting was convened to assess the security situation in Lagos and Ogun and review preparations for pre-2027 election activities.

Zone 2 covers Lagos and Ogun states. The zonal headquarters is in Onikan, Lagos state.

Recently, Jimoh assumed duty as the AIG in charge of zone 2, following his promotion from commissioner of police to the rank of AIG.

During the meeting, the AIG ordered commissioners of police in Lagos and Ogun commands to take full responsibility for investigations within their jurisdictions.

Jimoh said in situations where there are lapses in investigations on petitions, the zone will refer them back to the commissioners in charge.

“Where there are petitions of lapses or grievances, I will still refer them to the commands for the CPs to address and report back to me,” he said.

The AIG said experts would be deployed from the zonal headquarters to assist commands for cases that require specialised investigative support.

He directed both commands to intensify efforts to tackle violent crimes through surveillance patrols and crime prevention stop-and-search operations.

Jimoh said the zone will not tolerate indiscipline and human rights violations by police officers, while urging the commissioners of police to comply with the directive of the inspector-general of police (IGP) on professionalism.
