A member of the House of Representatives, Leke Abejide, has said he maintains close ties with both the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the All Progressives Congress (APC), despite being elected on the platform of the former.
Abejide, who represents Yagba Federal Constituency in Kogi, made the remark during a media chat with Channels TV on Thursday while fielding questions about his political alignment.
The lawmaker, who was for a long time the sole ADC member in the House, explained that his working relationship with members of the APC was borne out of necessity, given his position in the National Assembly.
“When I came to the House, I was alone… like an orphan. You cannot work alone; you need people to work with, and most of them are in APC,” he said.
He dismissed suggestions that he was being disloyal to his party, stressing that he remains a member of the ADC, the platform on which he won his election.
“I won election on the platform of ADC. If I were APC at heart in that sense, APC would have won,” he added.
However, Abejide acknowledged his longstanding political ties with the ruling party, noting that he was previously a member of the APC and still maintains relationships within its ranks.
“My heart is in APC and in ADC,” he said, attributing the sentiment to personal and political relationships.
The lawmaker also clarified that he does not hold dual party membership, insisting that his official affiliation remains with the ADC.
His comments come amid ongoing political realignments and heightened activities among opposition parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.
