BREAKING: Trump Makes U-turn, Suspends Bombing Of Iran For Two Weeks

United States President, Donald Trump, has announced a temporary suspension of planned military action against Iran, reversing his earlier hardline stance and signalling a pause in escalating tensions between both countries.

The decision, disclosed in a statement released late Tuesday night, follows discussions with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the country’s Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Asim Munir.

Trump said the United States would suspend bombing and other attacks on Iran for a period of two weeks, contingent on Tehran agreeing to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and support conditions aimed at ensuring safe maritime passage.

He indicated that the pause would serve as a pathway towards a broader ceasefire arrangement between both sides.

The US president also suggested that Washington had already achieved its primary military objectives and was progressing towards a longer-term agreement with Iran.

He added that recent proposals from Tehran had provided a workable basis for negotiations, with most contentious issues already addressed in preliminary discussions.

The two-week window, according to the statement, is intended to allow both countries to finalise and formalise an agreement that could bring sustained peace and stability to the Middle East.

He wrote, “Based on conversations with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir, of Pakistan, and wherein they requested that I hold off the destructive force being sent tonight to Iran, and subject to the Islamic Republic of Iran agreeing to the complete, immediate, and safe opening of the Strait of Hormuz, I agree to suspend the bombing and attack of Iran for a period of two weeks. This will be a double sided ceasefire! The reason for doing so is that we have already met and exceeded all military objectives, and are very far along with a definitive agreement concerning longterm peace with Iran, and peace in the Middle East. We received a 10 point proposal from Iran, and believe it is a workable basis on which to negotiate.

“Almost all of the various points of past contention have been agreed to between the United States and Iran, but a two week period will allow the agreement to be finalized and consummated. On behalf of the United States of America, as President, and also representing the countries of the Middle East, it is an honor to have this longterm problem close to resolution. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”

This comes a few hours after Trump warned that Iran faced the risk of overwhelming military action within hours, saying that “A whole civilisation will die tonight, never to be brought back again” if it failed to comply with US demands.

He had previously suggested that the situation could lead to catastrophic consequences and hinted at the possibility of a major political transformation in Tehran.

Trump also maintained that Iran must abandon its nuclear ambitions and reopen the Strait of Hormuz as key conditions for any deal, warning that failure to comply could result in intensified strikes on critical infrastructure.
