The tragic death of 22-year-old Afrofuji singer Afeez Adesina, popularly known as Destiny Boy, has taken a shocking turn, as an autopsy report now reveals the deadly secret behind his demise.
According to a report by Daily Trust, Destiny Boy, who fused traditional Yoruba Fuji with modern Afrobeats, died on January 17, 2026, under circumstances that had sparked widespread speculation and social media outrage.
Following his passing, videos circulated showing what appeared to be his body being transported to a mortuary, prompting rumours about the cause of his death.
Family members later stated that Destiny Boy had been battling a long-term health condition that caused seizures, for which they sought both medical and traditional treatment.
However, the Ogun State Police Command confirmed that the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department conducted an autopsy that revealed harmful levels of tramadol and its metabolites, as well as methamphetamine, in the late singer’s body.
The report concluded that the cause of death was aspiration pneumonitis resulting from the ingestion of these toxic substances.
DSP Babaseyi Oluseyi, Police Public Relations Officer, told Daily Trust that one suspect has been arrested in connection with the case, and investigations are ongoing.
Destiny Boy began gaining prominence in 2019 with his Fuji cover of Davido’s If, later delivering covers of tracks by Tekno, 2Baba, 9ice, and Small Doctor.
He also released original songs including Lamba, One Transaction, Gbese, Billion Dollar, Mio Gbonkankan, and Lowkey.
He and his partner, Iremide, welcomed their first child together in November 2024.
