Gunmen on Sunday night stormed Agwan Rukuba community in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State, killing an unspecified number of residents.
Eyewitnesses DAILY TRUST correspondent that the attackers, who rode on motorcycles, invaded the community around 7:30 pm, while people were going about their normal businesses.
They were firing bullets indiscriminately and causing panic among residents, our correspondent gathered.
As at press time, the exact number of persons killed could not be ascertained, as residents were still trying to identify the victims.
Eyewitnesses said the gunmen immediately fled the community after the attack.
The attack is coming barely two weeks after security officers in Wanka district of Kanam Local Government Area of Plateau was attacked, in which at least 20 people lost their lives.
The security personnel, who were on a patrol team, were said to have been ambushed by heavily armed bandits in the Garga area of Kanam LGA.
A press statement issued by the Kanam Development Association (KADA) said about 20 security personnel, comprising 12 security personnel including two senior military officers, lost their lives in the fierce gun battle, while eight vigilante members who joined forces to repel the attack were also killed.
