Following President Bola Tinubu’s directive that all service chiefs must relocate to Maiduguri, the Borno state capital, to nip in the bud the rising cases of Boko Haram/ISWAP attacks and bombings, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Olufemi Oluyede, and the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt Gen Waidi Shaibu, on Wednesday arrived at Maiduguri Airforce Base.
After arriving in Maiduguri, they proceeded straight to the Theatre Command Headquarters Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI.
At the Air Force Base, the service chiefs were received by the theatre commander, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, and other top military brass at about 11am.
After mounting the Guard of Honour at the Maimalari Military Cantonment in Maiduguri, the service chiefs went into a closed-door meeting, as the CDS is billed to address journalists who are anxiously waiting.
GISTSMATE MEDIA reported that Tinubu directed all service chiefs to move to Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, following the recent surge terrorist attacks in the state.
In a statement he personally signed and made available to reporters on Tuesday, following the Monday bomb attacks that claimed the lives of at least 23 people.
The President, who commiserated with the Borno people over recent terror strikes, assured that the Nigerian military is winning the war against the insurgents.
He revealed that during a security meeting with leaders of security and intelligence agencies last week, he approved additional equipment and operational support to enhance their capabilities.
