Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has taken a swipe at media personality and African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain, Dele Momodu, over his recent comments likening President Bola Tinubu to former military ruler, Sani Abacha.
Momodu, during a Sunday interview, had criticised the Tinubu administration, describing the president’s leadership style as dictatorial a remark that has since sparked reactions across political circles.
In a post shared on X, Fani-Kayode described the comparison as unfair and disrespectful, both to the president and to other government officials.
“I love Dele and I have immense respect for him, but he sounded drained, tired, and broken, and spoke little sense in that interview,” he said.
“He should consider taking a break from politics and commentary to regain perspective and refresh his thinking.”
Fani-Kayode further accused Momodu of being uncharitable in his assessment, arguing that his comments not only disrespected the president, vice president, ministers, lawmakers, and newly appointed ambassadors, but also undermined the intelligence of Nigerians.
He also turned his criticism toward the ADC, urging its members to prioritise building a viable opposition ahead of the 2027 general elections instead of focusing on attacking the ruling government.
According to him, the party lacks the structure and strength needed to compete effectively, likening it to “a poorly patched inflatable boat” unfit to withstand the realities of Nigeria’s political landscape.
“The ADC cannot even be described as a sinking ship but rather as a badly patched up inflatable plastic life boat that has not even managed to find its bearing or leave the harbour.
“It has no engine, no sails, no oars, no captain, no crew, no navigational equipment, no muscle, no firepower, no war chest, no destination and worse of all it is made of rubber and not steel.
“It cannot possibly survive the rough seas and harsh winds of Nigerian politics because it lacks gravitas, focus, character, intelligence, discipline and strength,” he said.
Fani-Kayode concluded that the ADC must develop focus, discipline and capacity if it hopes to be taken seriously as a political force in the coming elections.
