At least 200 United States troops have been wounded in the ongoing Middle East conflict involving Iran, according to officials from the United States Central Command.
A spokesperson, Captain Tim Hawkins, said the majority of the injuries sustained since the start of military operations have been minor, with many troops already returning to active duty.
“Since the start of Operation Epic Fury, approximately 200 US service members have been wounded.”
“The vast majority of these injuries have been minor,” said Hawkins.
However, some personnel suffered more severe conditions, including burns, shrapnel wounds and traumatic brain injuries.
Military officials confirmed that at least 13 US service members have been killed since the escalation of hostilities. Among the fatalities were six crew members who died in a military refuelling aircraft crash in western Iraq last week.
In a separate incident, six American personnel were killed when an Iranian drone struck an operations centre at a civilian port in Kuwait. Another soldier later died from injuries sustained during an attack on the Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia.
The conflict has taken a heavy toll across the region. Iranian authorities say more than 1,300 people have been killed, while additional casualties have been reported in Lebanon and Israel.
The conflict, which has drawn in the United States and Israel against Iran, continues to raise fears of wider regional instability, particularly around key energy routes such as the Strait of Hormuz.
Meanwhile, Donald Trump has issued mixed signals on the crisis, at times urging Western allies to secure critical oil routes, while also suggesting the US may not need to intervene heavily due to its domestic energy capacity.
