MAPOLY Students Pass Vote Of Confidence On Gov Abiodun, Issues Memo On Urgent Institutional Needs

The Students’ Union Executive of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta, under the leadership of Temitope Afolabi (Big AFO), hereby passes a Vote of Confidence in the leadership of His Excellency, Governor Dapo Abiodun.

This vote of confidence is premised on Your Excellency’s demonstrated commitment to education, particularly the fulfillment of your promise to reward the best graduating students during the institution’s last convocation ceremony. That singular act restored hope, strengthened trust in government, and reassured students that excellence and diligence are recognized and rewarded in Ogun State. We sincerely appreciate this gesture as evidence of responsive and accountable leadership.

While we commend fulfilled promises, we respectfully draw attention to other commitments made to the Polytechnic that are yet to be implemented, including the construction of new academic buildings and the provision of a students’ bus.

As of the date of this memorandum, construction of the proposed academic buildings has not commenced, and the promised students’ bus has not been delivered. These are not ceremonial projects; they are essential needs that directly impact teaching, learning, infrastructure development, and daily student mobility.

It was also communicated that the institution would receive its full statutory monthly subvention; however, only a fraction has reportedly been released. This shortfall has significantly affected academic stability, institutional maintenance, staff efficiency, learning conditions, students’ welfare, and general campus administration. As a State-owned Polytechnic, MAPOLY requires consistent and adequate financial support to function effectively and maintain academic standards.

Furthermore, the issue of unstable electricity supply remains a pressing concern. The current situation has greatly disrupted lectures and practical sessions, laboratory and workshop activities, ICT operations, administrative productivity, and general campus life. In view of this, the Students’ Union respectfully gives the Management of the institution one month from the date of this memorandum to take decisive and visible steps toward restoring stable electricity on campus. This is not a threat, but a constructive and urgent appeal in the interest of academic progress and student welfare.

The students of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic remain peaceful, respectful, and committed to dialogue. Our intention is not to condemn the government or the management, but to remind and to seek timely intervention where necessary.

Your Excellency, we trust in your leadership and believe that the same Governor who fulfilled the convocation reward promise will also address these pressing needs of the Polytechnic. We remain confident, cooperative, and committed to protecting the welfare, dignity, and academic future of MAPOLY students.

Sincerely,
ALUTA CONTINUA
