Nigerian Barber Sets Guinness World Record For Longest Professional Barbering Marathon

The African Civil Society Forum has unveiled Nigerian barber Joshua Babatunde Aiyenuro, popularly known as T-Jos Signature, as the new Guinness World Record holder for the longest professional barbering marathon, marking a major milestone for the craft and inspiring young people across the country.

Joshua set the record on February 2, 2026, after completing the marathon in Abuja, a feat the forum described as a symbol of resilience, purpose, and triumph over adversity.

Growing up in Aguda, Surulere, Lagos, Joshua faced difficult circumstances, but chose to focus on developing his skills as a barber. His dedication eventually earned him recognition as the official barber of Nigeria’s Super Eagles.

His path to the record was not without setbacks.

A previous attempt saw him complete 154 hours of non-stop barbing, only to be disqualified over technicalities.

Shortly after, he lost his mother, a blow he described as deeply painful.

Despite the disappointment, he returned with renewed determination, rebuilding and preparing for another attempt that eventually brought him global recognition.

The record, he said, is not just a personal victory but a statement about the value of skilled trades and the dignity of the profession.

Beyond the achievement, Joshua has launched a nationwide initiative aimed at empowering young Nigerians through vocational skills.

The programme targets 1,000 youths per state in areas such as professional barbing, hairdressing, and tailoring.

The initiative, planned in partnership with state governments, private sector actors, and philanthropists, is designed to provide training, tools, and starter packs to help young people break cycles of poverty and crime.

“We’re creating pathways to prosperity, one cut at a time,” Joshua said.

“Our goal is to empower these young minds to drive Nigeria’s growth and become a force for positive change,” he added.

From the streets of Surulere to the Guinness World Records, Joshua’s journey reflects resilience and the power of determination to overcome hardship.
