Asue Ighodalo, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State, has achieved a resounding victory in his own polling unit.
Ighodalo garnered 200 votes, decisively defeating his closest competitor, Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who received 45 votes.
Ighodalo cast his ballot at Polling Unit 3, Ward 1, Okaigben Ewohim, in the Esan South East Local Government Area of Edo State.
Both candidates are fiercely contesting for the governorship, aiming to succeed Governor Godwin Obaseki and secure control of the state.
Ighodalo, had earlier expressed disappointment over the conduct of the polls after casting his vote alongside his wife, Ifeyinwa, at Okaigben Ward 1, Unit 3, Idinrio Primary School, Ewohimi.
Speaking to journalists, Ighodalo voiced concerns about delays in the election process, stating: βI am not happy with the delay in the arrival of voting materials. This is a single-state election, and INEC had ample time to prepare.β
He also accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of attempting to manipulate the electoral process, saying: βWe are uncomfortable with the underhanded tactics coming from the APC camp. There are rumors that they are trying to undermine the election.
Some have been caught with ballot papers and PVCs. Worse still, they are offering between β¦15,000 and β¦20,000 to buy votes, trying to subvert the process.β
