EPL: Arsenal Open Nine-point Lead At The Top As Man United, Chelsea Win

Viktor Gyokores scored a brace as Arsenal sealed a comfortable 3-0 victory over Sunderland in their English Premier League (EPL) encounter at the Emirates stadium on Saturday.

The Swedish striker, who has come under intense scrutiny as Arsenal continue to fight for the elusive EPL title, proved his worth with the clinchers on a day Arsenal were without Martin Odegaard and Bukayo Saka, the captain and vice-captain.

Martin Zubimendi put the Gunners ahead on 42 minutes with an excellent strike that went in off the post to break the deadlock against a stubborn Sunderland, and ensure Arsenal went into the break 1-0 ahead.

Gyokores doubled the lead on 66 minutes with a well-taken shot following Kai Havertz’s pass, before the former Sporting Lisbon striker added more gloss to the scoreline by tapping into an empty net from Gabriel Martinelli’s selfless pass.

Victory moved Mikel Arteta’s title challengers to 56 points from 25 matches, nine ahead of joint-second Manchester City, who play on Sunday, and an Aston Villa team that was held to a 1-1 draw by Bournemouth.

In other matches, Cole Palmer’s first-half hat-trick led Chelsea to a 3-1 win at basement club Wolverhampton Wanderers for the club’s fourth consecutive league win.

The midfielder’s latest hat-trick is the third he has produced in the first half of an EPL match, making history as the first player to achieve the feat of three first-half hat-tricks in the league.

Manchester United also made it four wins on the bounce with a comfortable 2-0 victory over ten-man Tottenham, thanks to a goal in each half from Bryan Mbeumo and captain Bruno Fernandes.
