Nigerian streamer and TikToker Habeeb “Peller” Hamzat has sparked reactions on social media after announcing that he might withdraw from university barely two days after resuming academic activities.
The 20-year-old revealed on his Instagram page on Saturday that he secured admission into a private university in Lagos to study Law.
Although Peller did not disclose the name of the institution, reports claimed he was admitted to Caleb University in Imota, Ikorodu, Lagos.
The TikToker expressed excitement over gaining admission and also took a swipe at critics who had previously mocked his educational background.
Not Going Back
However, in a viral voice note that surfaced online on Tuesday, Peller announced plans to quit the programme, citing a lack of financial reward and a shift in his personal priorities.
He said, “I swear to God, I just remembered that I am supposed to be going to school, maybe tomorrow or the next day. I can’t even remember, but I’m not going again. I just realised that I would sit in class for about seven hours without making any money. I would just be writing, watching and playing around, earning nothing.
“God forbid. I’m not doing that again. When I entered the school, I noticed that everyone was old and I was the only young one among them. So I need to grow older first. Maybe when I’m 30 or 40, I’ll go back to school. I’m not doing it again, please cancel everything, because I’m tired.”
Request
Meanwhile, Peller, in a post on his Instagram Story on Tuesday, appealed to the school management to make an exception to its rules.
He urged the authorities to allow him to livestream on campus, explaining that it would enable him to earn an income while attending lectures.
“Please make una allow streaming for school abeg, as school dey go on, make I put my my livestream for one corner dey make some small token (Please allow streaming in school, as classes are ongoing, so I can run my livestream quietly in one corner and earn some small income)”, said Peller.
The newspaper reported that the streamer faced heavy online criticism, particularly over his grammar and academic background.
Some social media users even labelled him uneducated, a backlash that reportedly influenced his decision to return to school.
Peller later explained that part of his motivation was to improve his spoken English.
Reactions
Peller’s decision to quit school has sparked widespread reactions, particularly given his growing public profile after catching the attention of American streamer IShowSpeed during his visit to Nigeria.
While some netizens expressed concern over the move, others argued that he should have enrolled in an online university rather than attending a conventional, physical institution.
