Osun Government Organizes Training Workshop For Unconventional Security Groups

The Osun State Government, through the Ministry of Rural Development and Community Affairs, has organised a one-day training workshop for unconventional security groups across the state, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen community-based security and promote peaceful coexistence.

‎The workshop, held at the Local Government Service Commission Hall, Abere, brought together members of various unconventional security outfits operating at the grassroots level. It focused on enhancing their capacity in intelligence gathering, conflict resolution, community engagement, and effective collaboration with conventional security agencies.

‎Participants were also sensitised on professionalism, respect for human rights, and the importance of operating within the ambit of the law.

‎Chairing the training, the Honourable Commissioner for Rural Development and Community Affairs, Alhaji Ganiu Ola-oluwa Asejere, reaffirmed the commitment of the Ademola Adeleke-led administration to safeguarding lives and property across Osun State. He described unconventional security groups as critical partners in maintaining peace and security, especially at the community level.

‎Alhaji Asejere noted that the training was designed to equip participants with the necessary skills and knowledge to discharge their duties more effectively and responsibly. He urged them to see themselves as ambassadors of peace and to always work in synergy with formal security agencies in the interest of the state.

‎According to him, “Security is a collective responsibility. The government recognises the vital role unconventional security groups play in our communities, and this training is part of our resolve to support, regulate, and professionalise their operations for the overall safety of our people.”

‎Participants at the workshop expressed appreciation to the Osun State Government for the initiative, describing it as timely and impactful. They pledged their continued support for the government’s security architecture and their readiness to apply the lessons learned in their respective communities.

‎The Ministry of Rural Development and Community Affairs reiterated that similar engagements and capacity-building programmes would be sustained to ensure a safer and more secure Osun State for all residents.
