Trump’s Govt Sets New Record, Revokes Over 100,000 Visas In One Year

The U.S. State Department has said it has revoked more than 100,000 visas since President Donald Trump returned to office last year, describing the figure as a new record under the administration’s hardline immigration policy.

The revocations form part of a sweeping immigration crackdown launched after Trump’s return to the White House, which has seen a sharp rise in deportations, including cases involving migrants who previously held valid visas.

The administration has also tightened visa approval processes, introducing stricter social media checks and broader screening measures.

“The State Department has now revoked over 100,000 visas, including some 8,000 student visas and 2,500 specialized visas for individuals who had encounters with U.S. law enforcement for criminal activity. We will continue to deport these thugs to keep America safe,” the department said in a post on X.

State Department deputy spokesperson Tommy Pigott said overstays, driving under the influence, assault and theft were the four main reasons for the visa cancellations, noting that the figure represents a 150 per cent increase compared with 2024.

As part of the intensified enforcement, the State Department has established a Continuous Vetting Center to monitor visa holders already in the country and ensure compliance with U.S. laws.

“All foreign nationals on American soil comply with our laws, and that the visas of those who pose a threat to American citizens are swiftly revoked,” Pigott said.

In November, the department reported that about 80,000 non-immigrant visas had been revoked since Trump’s inauguration on January 20, 2025, for offences including driving under the influence, assault and theft.

Officials also said U.S. diplomats abroad have been instructed to closely scrutinise visa applicants deemed hostile to U.S. interests, particularly those with a record of political activism.

Trump administration officials have further warned that student visa holders and lawful permanent residents with “green cards” could face deportation over their support for Palestinians and criticism of Israel’s actions in the Gaza war, arguing that such conduct threatens U.S. foreign policy and accusing those involved of being pro-Hamas.
