Police Clear Senator Abbo Of R@pe Allegation

The Nigeria Police Force has cleared Senator Ishaku Elisha Abbo of an alleged rape accusation following what it described as a thorough and multi-layered investigation into the complaint filed against him.

Police findings indicate that the allegation, which surfaced in September 2025, could not be substantiated due to what investigators termed a lack of credible and supporting evidence.

The accusation was contained in a petition written by Mrs. Zainab Mohammed and addressed to the Inspector-General of Police, alleging that the former senator raped Khadija Mohammed at his residence in Katampe Extension, Abuja, on Sunday, June 29, 2025.

Acting on the petition, the Inspector-General of Police ordered a comprehensive investigation involving four specialised units of the Force: the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Gender Unit, the National Cybercrime Centre, the Intelligence Tactical Unit (ITU), and the Medical Unit.

An investigation report obtained by our correspondent and signed by Deputy Commissioner of Police Oki Rita Oyintare of the FCID, dated October 23, 2025, detailed the conclusions reached by the police.

The report stated: “After an extensive investigation in this case, it was discovered that the essential elements of this offence are lacking as a result of the time frame between the date of the commission of the alleged offence and the time it was reported for police investigation.”

According to the report, investigators executed a search warrant and visited the alleged scene of the crime on October 3, 2025, more than three months after the alleged incident. “Scene of crime/execution of search warrant was conducted on 3rd October 2025, but unfortunately, all ingredients to support the offence were not seen, probably because of the time frame from 29th June 2025 to 3rd October 2025,” the report noted.

The police further disclosed that the alleged survivor was taken to Deda Hospital on July 10, 2025, while the matter was officially reported to the police on September 15, 2025.

Crucially, the medical report from Deda Hospital, dated July 11, 2025, was cited as a key factor in the police decision. The report stated that “the survivor’s hymen was not breached,” indicating that “the alleged victim is still a virgin as of 10th July 2025, about 11 days after the alleged rape.”

The police also said attempts by the complainant to preserve digital evidence were unsuccessful. “The complainant tried to preserve vital documents from Nafisa’s phone by seizing the phone, but because she failed to submit the phone to the police for forensic analysis, she later discovered that the phone had been flashed and there was no trace of any document,” the report stated.

Investigators interviewed witnesses present at the residence on the day of the alleged incident. According to the report, “Patience Jesse was the person who opened the door for Nafisa and Khadija on 29th June 2025 when they arrived at the Senator’s house. She did not witness any rape of the survivor.”

The report added that only three people were present in the house during the visit. “The security man at the gate, Patience Jesse, Nafisa Mohammed and Senator Ishaku Elisha Abbo were the only persons at home during the time of visitation by Khadija and Nafisa. All the three said there was no rape,” investigators concluded.

Further findings revealed a separate complaint made by the senator. “Senator Abbo had on 30th June 2025 accused Khadija Mohammed and Nafisa Mohammed Chigli of stealing his wife’s gold jewellery. Senator Abbo officially reported the matter at Dawaki Police Station on 16th July 2025,” the report stated.

Medical screening results were also cited, with the police noting that “the Deda Hospital result indicates that the hymen is intact, while the screening test for Hepatitis B and C, syphilis and HIV were negative.”

Summing up its findings, the police stated: “Nothing incriminating was found during visit to the scene of the alleged crime and execution of search in the house and premises of the suspect on 3/10/2025.”

When contacted for his reaction on Sunday, Senator Abbo declined to comment extensively on the matter, saying he would leave everything to God.

“God is the rewarder of good or evil deeds,” the senator said. “God will expose all evil plans against me and reward the doers according to their deeds.”
