No fewer than nine passengers have been killed, while 10 others sustained injuries in a fatal road traffic crash in Bauchi.
The incident was confirmed on Friday by the Bauchi State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
The Sector Commander, CC Apaji Danladi Boyi, disclosed this while briefing journalists at his office.
According to Boyi, the crash occurred at about 6:20 a.m. along the Jama’are–Azare axis of the Kano–Maiduguri Expressway.
“The fatal crash involved a commercial vehicle with registration number KTG 181 ZZ, conveying 19 passengers from Gombe to Kano,” he said.
Boyi added that preliminary investigations suggested the crash was likely caused by overspeeding, fatigue, and loss of control, although investigations were still ongoing.
The injured passengers were rescued by FRSC personnel and taken to the Federal Medical Centre, Azare, for treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were deposited at the hospital’s morgue pending identification and claim by relatives.
The FRSC commander said the corps’ Operation Zero was ongoing across the state, assuring that officers were actively monitoring major roads.
He urged motorists to adhere strictly to traffic rules, noting that vehicular movement remained heavy as travellers returned to their destinations after the Yuletide and New Year holidays.
