My Peace Deal With Fubara Will Soon Be Made Public – Wike

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has said he will soon make public the details of the peace agreement reached between him and Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, before President Bola Tinubu.

Wike spoke on Wednesday during a “thank you visit” to Tai Local Government Area of Rivers State.

President Tinubu had in June brokered a peace deal between Wike and Fubara to end the long-running political crisis in the state.

Although he did not mention names, Wike accused the governor of failing to keep to the agreement, saying, “very soon, we will let the people of Rivers State know what we agreed on before Mr President.”

He warned the people of Tai against trusting politicians who do not keep their promises, stressing that such people should not be relied on.

Wike also said Rivers people were ready for the 2027 elections, adding that money would not decide outcomes in the state.

According to him, the will of the people is what truly matters.

He explained that his visit was not for politics but to appreciate the people of Tai for supporting him and President Tinubu.

“It was a tough battle in 2023. You took a risk, worked with us and God gave us victory,” Wike said.

“See what the risk had resulted too, a federal university sited in Tai and many other benefits.”

Earlier, Senator Barry Mpigi (APC, Rivers South East) thanked Tinubu and Wike for their support to the district, saying, “the people never had it this good.”

Mpigi assured Wike of the people’s loyalty, saying, “I want to assure you on behalf of the people of Rivers South East, that we will continue to be with you.”

Also speaking, a member of the Rivers State House of Assembly representing Tai Constituency, Bernard Nbar, pledged continued support.

“You can count on the Tai people, because Tai people keep to their words,” Nbar said.

Chairman of Tai Local Government Council, Mbakpone Okpe, thanked Wike for visiting the area and engaging with the people.

He said Wike’s call to support Tinubu in 2023 had paid off.

“Our people have continued to benefit from appointments, infrastructure, empowerment and other dividends of democracy,” Okpe said.

“For these reasons and more, we are eager to return Mr President for a second tenure. We will roll out all our votes for Tinubu and whoever you support.”
