The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned Chris Ngige, former minister of labour and productivity, over alleged contract fraud.
The ex-Anambra governor was arraigned on an eight-count charge before a Federal Capital Territory high court in Gwarimpa on Friday.
Upon arraignment, Ngige pleaded not guilty to all the counts.
In the charge dated October 31, the commission alleged that Ngige used his position to confer undue advantage by awarding multiple contracts to associates and companies linked to him.
Ngige was governor of Anambra from 2003-2006, and labour minister from 2015 to 2023.
On December 11, Fred Chukwuelobe, his media aide, shared that the ex-governor was in EFCC custody after rumours made the round that he had been kidnapped.
He stated:
“Former Governor of Anambra State and immediate past Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, is with the EFCC. More details later.”
