Again, Otti Moves For Nnamdi Kanu’s Release, Visits Him In Sokoto Prison

Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, visited Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the jailed leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), at the Sokoto Correctional Centre on Sunday.

Kanu was recently sentenced to life imprisonment by Justice James Omotosho after he was found guilty on all seven counts of terrorism offences.

The charges related to his secessionist agitations, acts of terrorism, membership of a proscribed group, killing of security operatives, destruction of public property, concealment, and the importation of an unregistered radio transmitter.

The IPOB leader, who had been in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) in Abuja while his protracted trial lasted, was moved to Sokoto Prisons after he was sentenced to life jail.

Kanu’s lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor, and his brother, Prince Emmanuel Kanu, announced the visit on Facebook.

Ejimakor thanked the governor for keeping his promise to visit Kanu. He wrote that Otti is “a man of his word,” and prayed that the visit would help bring an end to Kanu’s “undeserved suffering.”

Emmanuel Kanu also praised the visit, saying that the governor and the people of Sokoto had “made a unified statement” by showing support for Nnamdi Kanu.

After Kanu was sentenced to life in prison, Governor Otti had said he was working on securing his release.

He explained that he had already started a plan to achieve Kanu’s freedom during his trial and would continue pushing for it.
