Former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, has given reason what he described as the dominance of the Yoruba tribe in political, economic and social development in Nigeria.
Omokri, who cited the outcome of the Southwest governors’ meeting in Ibadan on Monday over rising insecurity, described the tribe as a good example to be emulated for peace, development and progress in Nigeria.
He shared this on his X page on Tuesday in a post titled, “Why the Lukumi Yoruba Continue to Be Ahead in Nigeria”.
The former presidential aide commended the shared ability and ideas of the Southwest Governors to come together and discuss the current insecurity challenges in Nigeria and how to make the region more developed and secured.
While stressing the importance of such a meeting among governors regardless of party affiliations, Omokri however noted that among all the regions in Nigeria, the Southwest zone is the least plagued by insecurity.
“Yesterday, on Monday, November 24, 2025, Southwest Governors met in Ibadan, Oyo State, to discuss the current insecurity challenges facing Nigeria. They forgot political divisions and saw themselves as neither Governors with a common goal. Not one state was missing. All states were there. The Lukumi Yoruba Governors came up with suitable ideas, set up a budget, and made money available to establish an insecurity fund, as well as nominating managers for the fund.
“Now, mind you, of all the regions, the Southwest is the zone least plagued by insecurity. There have been no school abductions ever in the Southwest, and the type of banditry, kidnappings, or violence that exists in some other parts of Nigeria is non-existent there. Furthermore, none of these states has been listed in the travel advisories of various Western countries as places to avoid, unlike other sections of Nigeria.
“Yet, the Southwest is the only area whose Governors have met to adopt a coordinated, action-backed strategy to proactively fight insecurity.
“Think about that for a second. Let it sink in!,” the post partly reads.
Continuing, Omokri pointed out that this move alone is enough to answer whoever criticises the region in terms of economic growth, adding that protectiveness, sacrifice, and visionary thinking of the Southwest Governors have strengthened the region.
“Now, when the Southwest continues to progress and contribute more to Nigeria’s GDP and VAT fund than all the other five zones combined, someone will wake up from their slumber and say, ‘It is because of Lagos port.’
“They will not remember when their own Governors, who are facing the fiercest insecurity in Nigeria, carried on as though they were on a picnic.
“And then, after this protectiveness, sacrifice, and visionary thinking by the Southwest Governors, one shallow-minded individual will come out to say, ‘Lagos is a No Man’s Land,’ or ‘We Built Lagos!’
“Why are the Lukumi Yoruba ahead in Nigeria? It has NOTHING to do with ports and EVERYTHING to do with leadership!
“They do not, and cannot, have Governors who will build breweries when there are no schools, or travel abroad when their states are on fire. And that is why approximately 6,000 people enter Lagos every day. Many in night buses because Lagos is their boss!”,he added.
