The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has declared a one-day national prayer to address what it describes as the “ongoing Christian genocide in the country.”
The decision followed resolutions reached during the association’s 4th Quarter National Executive Council (NEC) meeting, held on November 18, 2025, in Jos, Plateau State.
The declaration was conveyed in an official circular dated November 20, 2025, signed by CAN’s General Secretary, Apostle Prof. Samson Fatokun, and issued from the association’s National Headquarters at the National Christian Centre, Abuja.
The message was addressed to CAN bloc leaders, zonal and state chairmen, heads of denominations, and resident pastors nationwide.
According to the circular, the directive came from the CAN President, Archbishop (Dr.) Daniel Okoh, following deliberations at the Jos meeting.
CAN announced that the prayer session will hold on Sunday, December 7, 2025, and will be observed simultaneously in all churches and Christian denominations across the country.
The Christian apex body outlined key prayer points centered on national safety, healing, and divine intervention.
The prayer points include an end to the alleged Christian genocide and targeted killings and resettlement of displaced Christians back to their ancestral communities.
Others are divine halt to activities of terrorists, kidnappers, and bandits, wisdom for government officials to address insecurity and restoration of peace and stability throughout Nigeria.
The prayer will draw from biblical passages in 2 Chronicles 7:14 and Esther 4:15–16, scriptures that emphasise national repentance, intercession, and divine rescue.
CAN called on church leaders and pastors to take the nationwide observance seriously, stressing the spiritual weight of the moment.
“Kindly ensure that this prayer is taken with all fervency. We strongly believe that our God will rise in power as He did in Esther’s time,” Fatokun wrote.
The declaration comes amid rising concerns over attacks on Christian communities across several regions of the country, with CAN insisting that unified spiritual action is urgently needed to confront the escalating insecurity.
