President Bola Tinubu has rewarded outstanding students from secondary schools in Nigeria in celebration of international students’ day.
According to the welcome address by Hon. Asefon Sunday Dayo, the Senior Special Assistant to President on students engagement at the international students’ day celebration, the cash award is to motivate the students to continue striving for excellence at all levels.

AT THE 2025 INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS’ DAY CELEBRATION

Distinguished guests, esteemed educators, respected parents, and my dear students from universities, polytechnics, colleges of education, secondary schools, and the Nigerian Law School. I am delighted to welcome you all to this year’s International Students’ Day Celebration, hosted by the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Students Engagement.
Today’s theme, “Celebrating and Rewarding Academic Excellence: A Key to Unlocking Latent Potentials for Sustainable Development,” speaks directly to the transformative power of education in nation-building. It reminds us that every great society is built on the brilliance, diligence, and imagination of its young people.
This event represents the second edition of our commitment to celebrating academic excellence, and we have expanded our scope, rewards, and impact. Today, we proudly honour the best graduating students from our universities, polytechnics, colleges of education, and the Nigerian Law School. These exceptional achievers will receive laptops, cash awards, and other empowerment tools to support their future endeavours.
In the same spirit of inclusiveness and encouragement, we are also recognising outstanding students from secondary schools, who will each receive a ₦100,000 cash award as a motivation to continue striving for academic distinction. By celebrating excellence at every level, we are building a culture where hard work is honoured, talent is supported, and potential is nurtured.
This initiative is fully aligned with the vision and commitment of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, who has consistently demonstrated unwavering support for education and the success of Nigerian students. The President believes and we affirm today that our students are not just leaders of tomorrow, but contributors to national development today. When we reward academic excellence, we are investing in Nigeria’s future.
To all the award: your outstanding performances have distinguished you. You represent the best of our educational institutions, and we are proud of your achievements. I encourage you to continue leading with integrity, innovation, and a sense of responsibility to your communities and the nation.
To the parents, teachers, administrators, and partners who have supported these students: thank you for your dedication. Your efforts form the foundation upon which excellence is built.
As we celebrate today, let us renew our collective commitment to building an education system that empowers every Nigerian child to thrive. When we unlock the potential of our students, we unlock the future of Nigeria.
