A 54-year-old man, Edward Ngozi Odega, has been arrested by the Delta State Police Command for alleged incestuous acts with his three daughters aged between 13 and 24.
Our correspondent gathered that the father, also a suspected pedophile, started a sexual relationship with his daughters at a young age.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, who spoke on the incident, which he described as sad on Saturday, said that the father’s incestuous act was exposed when the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Ogborikoko Division, CSP Temi Agbede Zuokumor, went round schools within her jurisdiction on an enlightenment outreach as part of proactive policing.
The DPO, according to Edafe, addressed the students, particularly senior ones, telling them not to hide whatever they could be going through.
She told them they were free to talk and let the public know if they were being defiled, molested, or going through any pain.
The outreach paid off when one of the man’s daughters, the 15-year-old, who listened to the DPO’s talk, was noticed by her friend, who had always seen her crying since the enlightenment talk.
The PPRO said: “When the friend asked the man’s daughter why she was crying, the girl opened up about her father having a sexual relationship with her.
“Her friend also told her that the father did it to her when she came visiting, and that was why she stopped coming to visit her friend.”
The police spokesman stated that the daughter’s ordeal led to the arrest of the father, and during the investigation, it was learnt that the man was also doing the same with his other two daughters.
The father, when interviewed, confessed to having an incestuous relationship with his three daughters.
He told the police that he started the sexual relationship seven years ago.
“I don’t know why I was doing it. It is just evil urge. I have three daughters and I have slept with all of them. My youngest daughter is 13 years old. I used to have sex with them in our residence. My action breaks my heart,” the arrested father said.
The eldest daughter, who is 24 years old, however, said that her father started sleeping with her when she was 12 years old and in Primary Six.
“I was shy to tell anyone because I knew it was an abomination. My sisters did not tell me they were also going through the same thing. I learnt of it through their school after the outreach,” the eldest daughter said.
The 15-year-old daughter, who opened up to her friend before the matter became known, said that she started crying when the DPO came to their school to counsel them on exposing wrong things.
She stated: “I told my classmate that my father was defiling me.”
The PPRO said that the Commissioner of Police, Olufemi Abaniwonda, has ordered further investigation into the case.
