Lakurawa Terr0rists Kill Customs Officer In Checkpoint Attack

A Customs officer has been killed following an attack by suspected Lakurawa terrorists on a Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) checkpoint in Maje, Bagudo Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

The incident occurred on Saturday night when the attackers, reportedly riding on motorcycles, opened fire on the checkpoint before fleeing towards the border forests.

The development was disclosed on Sunday in a post on X by Bakatsine, a conflict and crisis journalist covering insecurity in Nigeria’s northwest.

The journalist noted that the latest attack comes shortly after another major security incident in the same local government area.

On October 31, Lakurawa gunmen abducted the Deputy Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly during a raid in Bagudo town.

The lawmaker was rescued on Saturday evening following a security operation, although details of the rescue were not made public.

Residents in the affected communities reportedly remain in fear as the group continues to operate across rural areas of Bagudo LGA, taking advantage of the remote terrain along the Nigeria–Benin and Nigeria–Niger border corridors.

He wrote: “Yesterday night, Lakurawa attack Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) checkpoint in Maje, Bagudu LGA of Kebbi State. One Customs officer was confirmed k*lled during the attack. The attackers reportedly arrived on motorcycles and opened fire before withdrawing towards the border forests.

“This incident comes shortly after another major security development in the same LGA. On the evening of October 31st, Lakurawa abducted the Deputy Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly during a raid in Bagudu town. The lawmaker was rescued yesterday evening following a security-led rescue operation, though details of the operation remain undisclosed.
