Lamido Threatens To Sue PDP, Alleges Inability To Buy Chairmanship Nomination Form

Former Governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido, has threatened legal action against the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) if he is unable to purchase a nomination form to contest for the party’s chairmanship position at the November 15 National Elective Convention, scheduled to take place in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State.

Lamido arrived at the National Secretariat of the party in Abuja about 11 am on Monday to buy a form, but was unable to do so.

He first went to the finance office and later met with the National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, and the National Organising Secretary, Honourable Umar Bature.

Both Anyanwu and Bature informed him that they had no information about the form and could not help him.

Bature advised him to approach the National Convention Organising Committee (NCOC) headed by the Adamawa State Governor, Honourable Ahmadu Fintiri, for further briefing.

“This time around the system has changed. The form is not with me, I have not seen any form, I don’t know what it looks like”, Bature told him.

Speaking with reporters shortly before leaving the secretariat, Lamido threatened to sue the party if he was unable to buy the form.

He stated that, to the best of his knowledge, the form was usually in the custody of the national organising secretary.

“If I don’t get the form, I will go to court”, he said.

Lamido added, “You are telling me that I should go to Adamawa if I want a form or what?”

Lamido noted that the party remained one and united, adding that there would be no benefit in fighting to tear the party apart.

When asked why he had not bought the form according to the timeline of the convention, the former governor replied that the party was a “family and we should relate as a family.”

The North, where the position was zoned to had since nominated a former Minister of Special Duties, Tanimu Turaki, SAN, as its consensus candidate, having micro-zoned it to the North-West geopolitical zone.
