Police operatives in Katsina State have arrested a 38-year-old man, Mubarak Bello, for unlawful possession of a firearm, impersonation, and being in possession of fake documents.
The suspect, said to be a resident of Kofar Yamma quarters in Kurfi Local Government Area of Katsina State, was nabbed around 2:30 a.m. on Saturday during a routine patrol by operatives attached to the Command’s Department of Operations.
According to a statement issued on Sunday by the command’s spokesman, DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, the suspect was driving an ash-coloured Toyota Corolla with Lagos registration number GGE 473 BH when he was intercepted by the patrol team.
“On September 13th, 2025, at about 0230 hrs, while on routine patrol, officers attached to the command’s department of operations successfully arrested one Mubarak Bello, m, age 38, of Kofar Yamma quarters, Kurfi LGA, Katsina State, in connection with illegal possession of firearm and impersonation.
“The team, acting on heightened vigilance and proactive policing strategies, intercepted a Toyota Corolla, ash color, with registration No. Lagos GGE 473 BH, driven by the suspect. Upon questioning, the suspect could not provide a satisfactory account of himself or the vehicle, prompting an immediate search,” it stated.
Police said items recovered from the vehicle include: One locally fabricated rifle; four live cartridges; two expended shells; a fake police identity card, and an extra plate number bearing Kano registration FGE 68.
Aliyu added that the suspect is currently in custody, while investigations are ongoing to determine the source of the firearm, the fake police ID, and other incriminating exhibits.
According to the statement, the suspect is currently in custody while investigations are being intensified to determine the circumstances surrounding the possession of the firearm, fake identification, and other exhibits.
