The Federal Government has declared Friday, September 5, 2025, as a public holiday to mark celebration of the Eid-ul-Mawlid.
Eid-ul-Mawlid is the commemoration of the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).
The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the declaration on behalf of the federal government in a statement by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Magdalene Ajani, on Tuesday.
Tunji-Ojo congratulated Muslims in Nigeria and beyond, urging reflection on the Prophet’s virtues of peace, love, humility, tolerance, and compassion.
The minister also called on Nigerians of all faiths to “use the occasion to pray for peace, security, and stability in the country, while supporting government’s drive for unity and development.”
“The Minister of Interior wishes Muslims a joyous and peaceful Eid-ul-Mawlid celebration,” the statement added.
