The All Progressives Congress (APC) has recorded a sweeping victory in the Rivers State local government council elections.
APC won 20 out of the 23 local government areas, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secured three.
According to the official results released, the APC won the majority of chairmanship seats across the state, with strong showings in both urban and rural LGAs.
In Ahoada East, the APC polled 84,125 votes, while in Akuku Toru, it recorded 63,593 votes. The party also secured victories in Andoni (126,181 votes), Asari Toru (56,383 votes),
Bonny (13,543 votes), Degema (61,536 votes), Eleme (77,452 votes), Emohua (115,380 votes), Etche (100,649 votes), Gokana (96,478 votes), Ikwerre (62,746 votes), Khana (156,027 votes), Ogu/Bolo (36,374 votes), Okrika (82,285 votes) and Opobo/Nkoro (38,822 votes).
The PDP, however, retained its stronghold in Obio/Akpor with 328,888 votes, as well as ONELGA (51,051 votes) and one other local government area.
The outcome has further strengthened the APC’s grip on grassroots politics in Rivers State, while the PDP has been left with fewer council seats compared to previous elections.
