World Junior Championship: Abdul Jabar Wins Nigeria’s First Medal In Swimming 

Abdul Jabar Adama entered the history books, becoming the first-ever Nigerian swimmer to win a medal at the World Aquatics Junior Swimming Championships in Romania.

The 17-year-old secured a Silver medal in the men’s 50m Butterfly with a time of 23.64 seconds, finishing just behind Great Britain’s Dean Fearn, who won Gold with a time of 23.54 seconds.

Aside from winning Nigeria’s first global medal at the swimming championships, Adama broke two Nigerian records in a single day on his way to this historic achievement.

Before the championships, his Nigerian record stood at 23.81 seconds. He improved this to 23.61 seconds in the preliminaries and then clocked an impressive 23.48 seconds in the semifinals.

With this remarkable performance, Nigeria may have discovered a potential Olympic medalist for the LA 2028 Olympics.
