Man Loses Friend’s N90,000 To Sports Betting, Begs for N100 To Buy Pure Water

A young Nigerian man has become the subject of heated online discussions after reportedly losing ₦90,000 of his friend’s money to sports betting before begging for ₦100 to buy pure water.

The incident was made public by TikTok user @gambleawarenga, who shared a video interview with a cashier working at the betting shop where the drama unfolded.

In the video, the cashier narrated how the young man came into the shop with ₦90,000, which he admitted belonged to his friend. Rather than safeguarding the money, he staked it all on bets and ended up losing every kobo. Shockingly, after the huge loss, he pleaded for just ₦100 to quench his thirst.

The cashier described her two-year experience working at the betting outlet as one filled with similar dramatic encounters, noting that reckless gambling habits are common among many customers.

“I’m a cashier, I’ve been working here for 2 years. My experience here is full of drama. Today, a customer came with ₦90,000, money he said belonged to his friend. He used it to bet and lost everything. Afterwards, he asked me for ₦100 to buy pure water,” she said.

She added that some bettors even go as far as staking money meant for rent, and after losing, resort to begging for transport fare to return home.

“Some even come with rent money, gamble it, and then beg for ₦200 to get home. I don’t advise young men or anyone to gamble, especially if they don’t understand it. Don’t let anyone teach you,” she warned.
