The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced the sudden death of Ambassador Taofik Obasanjo Coker, Nigeria’s Consul General in Buea, Republic of Cameroon.
Coker passed away on Saturday, August 16, 2025, following a brief illness.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announces, with deep sorrow, the sudden demise of Ambassador Taofik Obasanjo Coker, the Consul General of Nigeria in Buea, Republic of Cameroon, who unfortunately passed on after a brief illness on Saturday, 16th August 2025,” the Foreign Affairs said in a statement on Wednesday by its Spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa.
The Ministry described Ambassador Coker as a dedicated and hardworking career diplomat who served Nigeria with distinction in various capacities.
His notable postings included Nigeria’s missions in Conakry, Guinea, and Shanghai, China, before he was appointed Consul General in Buea.
Coker’s untimely demise is considered a significant loss to both the diplomatic community and the nation.
The Ministry expressed deep condolences to Coker’s family, colleagues, and friends. It also prayed for the peaceful repose of his soul.
