Police Arrest Student, Others For Stealing Father’s N30m Truck

Operatives of the Bauchi Police Command have arrested a 20-year-old university student, Sadiq Abubakar, and two others for allegedly conspiring to steal and sell a tipper truck valued at ₦30 million belonging to his father.

According to a statement issued by the command’s spokesman, CSP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, the incident was reported on July 25, 2025, by the truck owner, Alhaji Rabiu Ahmad, Chief Executive Officer of Arabab Investment Limited.

Wakil said the suspects tied up the warehouse watchman, 65-year-old Luka Galadima Mahaukata, and made away with a truck marked MGU-95-ZF from the company’s premises along Gudum Road in Bauchi metropolis.

The victim, who sustained injuries during the attack, was taken to the hospital for treatment, while detectives launched an investigation into the case.

“On July 29, 2025, at about 1:06 p.m., the stolen vehicle was traced to the Tabarakallah Area of Kano State, where operatives, led by CSP Hassan A. Musa, recovered it and arrested the driver, 38-year-old Sabo Alhassan,” Wakil said.

Further investigation led to the arrest of Alhassan’s employer, Abubakar Shehu, a 34-year-old car dealer from Kumbotso area of Kano, who claimed to have bought the truck from Sadiq Abubakar.

The police said Sadiq, a 200-level student of Capital City University, Kano, later confessed to masterminding the theft and collaborating with Shehu to sell the truck.

He reportedly misled the buyer by claiming, during a phone call involving a third party, that the truck was an inheritance from his late father.
