Democracy Day: Amid Heavy Security, Protesters Rally In Lagos, Ibadan, Akure

Protesters took to the streets of Lagos on Thursday to mark Nigeria’s Democracy Day, despite a significant deployment of security personnel across key areas of the city.

Security operatives, including officers from the Nigeria Police Force, maintained a visible presence at protest sites.

Patrol vehicles were positioned strategically to control movement and prevent any potential escalation.

The demonstrators, including civil society groups and pro-democracy activists, were gathering to voice concerns over worsening economic conditions and rising insecurity under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

In Lagos, protesters gathered under the Ikeja Bridge, chanting solidarity songs and holding placards to demand accountability and improved living conditions.

Also members of the TakeItBack movement in Akure, Ondo State, gathered at Cathedral Junction, urging citizens to become more socially conscious and to assert their democratic rights.

In Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, protesters gathered at Mokola.
