As the leadership of the Northern Youth Initiative for Peace and Good Governance (NYIPGG), we are compelled to issue this statement considering its importance to the Northern populace, which has been engrossed in the distortion of realities by ill-motivated politicians who see all avenues as an opportunity for their political adventure.
Islamic teachings have revealed the importance of feeding the needy not only in the month of Ramadan but at all times. This and other good reasons prompted Nigeria’s first son, Mr. Seyi Tinubu, under the Renewed Hope Youth Engagement, to initiate an iftar program across virtually all the Muslim-dominated states in Northern Nigeria.
A gesture that was organized with good intentions availed the son of the President to fraternize with youth at the grassroots, critical stakeholders, Islamic clerics, and traditional rulers, which has brought him applause as the first in the history of Nigeria’s first family.
However, as advocates of peace and good governance, we noticed the deliberate attempt by some ill quarters to misrepresent to the public the aim of Mr. Seyi Tinubu’s Ramadan Iftar program with the intention of scoring political gain, which is part of their 2027 campaign plans, having forgotten that not only 2027 but tomorrow belongs to God only.
We find it most important to let these individuals know that Seyi Tinubu is not a political office holder; as such, anything he does is an act of love for the less privileged. This country has had many sons of the Presidents since independence, and no one among them has demonstrated such kindness to the downtrodden.
The Ramadan package is part of many initiatives of the Renewed Hope Youth Engagement, and there is more to come. These gestures are not politically motivated but are done as acts of benevolence, for which the target beneficiaries are grateful for their impacts.
We urge these individuals to abide by the lessons of this holy month and disembark from saying what is not true, as Allah shall hold us accountable for all our sayings and actions.
