Five Soldiers Dëåd, Six Gunmen K¡lled As Troops Engage Terror¡sts In Gun Battle 

In a fierce clash with terrorists, troops from the Defence Headquarters Special Operations Brigade eliminated six gunmen in Sokoto state and seized significant weaponry during a coordinated operation on January 11.

The operation took place in the Lakurawa area, within the Gudu local government area of Sokoto.

Lt. Col. Abubakar Abdullahi, the spokesman for Operation Fansan Yamma, confirmed the operation in a statement released on Thursday. He revealed that the encounter between the military and the terrorists resulted in a heavy firefight, during which six terrorists were neutralized.

The troops also recovered critical weapons, including four AK47 rifles, 160 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and a box of 12.7mm ammunition, among other military equipment.

“During the ensuing firefight, our troops neutralised six terrorists and recovered a significant cache of weapons, including rifles and ammunition,” Lt. Col.

Abdullahi said. “Tragically, this operation resulted in the loss of five courageous soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their country.”

The loss of five soldiers in the battle has brought immense sorrow, with the military expressing deep condolences to their families and loved ones. The troops’ sacrifice highlights the ongoing dangers faced by Nigeria’s armed forces in their efforts to protect the nation from terrorism.

The Defence Headquarters has called on the public to remain vigilant, urging residents to report any suspicious activities to military and security forces. “We anticipate increased cooperation from community members, as this is vital for the safety and security of our communities,” Lt. Col. Abdullahi added.

The operation in Sokoto is part of ongoing efforts by the Nigerian military to combat terrorist threats in the northern and northwestern regions of the country, where terrorism, banditry, and armed insurgency have become significant security challenges.
