35 Underage Girls Missing Since October 2025 Allegedly Found In Anambra Brothel; Govt Orders Probe

The Anambra State Government has directed relevant security agencies and regulatory authorities to immediately investigate the allegations of trafficking and sexual exploitation of thirty-five (35) underage children from Ebonyi State in a brothel in the state.

The investigation is to establish the facts, rescue and protect the affected minors, and ensure that all individuals and syndicates involved are identified and prosecuted in accordance with the law, and the facilities sealed for public safety.

A disturbing video currently circulating on social media platforms has revealed that the thirty-five underage children from Ebonyi State, reportedly missing since October 2025, were found in a brothel in Aguleri, being used as sex workers.

Reacting to the development in a statement on Thursday, the Anambra State Commissioner for Information, Dr Law Mefor, said the state abhors, condemns and will not tolerate any form of child trafficking, sexual exploitation or abuse of minors under any circumstance.

According to him, the alleged acts constitute a serious violation of human dignity, moral decency and the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, particularly the Child Rights Act, which has been implemented in the state, and the Criminal Code, among other relevant laws.

“The Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act (TIPPEA) criminalises all forms of child trafficking, sexual exploitation and forced prostitution. In contrast, the Child Rights Act and corresponding child rights laws adopted by states, including Anambra, expressly prohibit the use of children for sexual activities, forced labour or any form of exploitation. These laws recognise the child’s rights to dignity, protection, survival and development, and they prescribe severe penalties for offenders, which the state will not hesitate to invoke,” the Commissioner said.

Mefor revealed that the state government has already directed relevant security agencies and regulatory authorities to immediately investigate the allegations, establish the facts and rescue and protect any affected minors.

He noted that the long arm of the law is on the operators of such modern-day travesties within Anambra State, and they will face the full wrath of the law.

“Residents and visitors are assured that public safety remains a top priority, and all lawful measures are being strengthened to protect vulnerable individuals, especially children.

“Members of the public should remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies. If you see something, say something… call 5111, and the government will do something while guaranteeing confidentiality,” Mefor noted.
