Senator for Edo North, Adams Oshiomhole said only those who do not wish former President Goodluck Jonathan well will encourage him to vie for the presidency in 2027.
Oshiomhole stated this during an appearance on on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics.
He said seeking re-election in 2027 could damage the ex-president’s legacy as the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) would easily defeat win.
“How can Jonathan be a threat? We defeated him before when PDP was truly PDP.
“If a man had PDP at its best, at its peak, and he was defeated, I think only his enemy will push him to go into election,” the former Edo governor stated.
The former APC National Chairman noted that Jonathan already enjoys the status of a statesman, noting that a return to the political arena could erode the respect accorded him.
He emphasised that Jonathan “has managed to demonstrate that out of power, you can be relevant and at peace.”
Oshiomhole stressed, “If I were able to advise him, I will say, Sir, maintain this status. You governed for eight years, you don’t have to govern for nine.”
