2026 UTME: What Candidates Must Know To Avoid Disqualification

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that registration for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) will commence on Monday, January 26.

The Registrar of JAMB, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, made the announcement in Lagos on Saturday, warning candidates to strictly adhere to the rules and guidelines set by the examination body to avoid disqualification.

He stressed that it is important for all candidates to familiarise themselves with the rules and regulations governing the examination to prevent avoidable errors.

Below are some of the key instructions of JAMB:

First, registration through the ePIN will run from January 26 to February 28, when the exercise is expected to close.

Second, candidates must be at least 16 years old by September 30. According to JAMB, the results of underage candidates will only be released after the completion of the entire evaluation process for those seeking age waivers. Such candidates will undergo a rigorous assessment and must score a minimum of 80 per cent in each of UTME/A’LEVEL, PUTME, SSCE and the exceptional candidate assessment.

Third, candidates are required to declare any previous registration or admission history with the board. Failure to do so constitutes an offence that attracts disqualification, as it is a criminal offence to run more than one undergraduate programme concurrently.

Sixth, candidates are expected to arrive at their examination centres before the stipulated commencement time.

Seventh, candidates must pay close attention to and strictly follow the instructions of the invigilators.

Eighth, all forms of examination malpractice are prohibited. Candidates found copying or communicating with others during the examination will be disqualified.

Ninth, candidates must verify their registration details to ensure accuracy in their names, dates of birth and other personal information. They are also required to take a printed copy of their examination slip to the CBT centre on the examination day.
